It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Ultraceuticals. I’ve been using their products for some time now and I’ll recommend them to just about anyone who’ll listen. But as any skincare aficionado knows, over time your skin needs change, meaning products and treatments that worked for you 6 months ago might not be suitable right now.
For the past year I have battled on and off with acne. It clears up, then comes back with a vengeance, leaving me scrambling to try every product and treatment under the sun to get rid of it again. When it eventually does go away, I am left with strange red marks on my cheeks, similar to scarring but not as deep. I am also prone to patches of pigmentation in the summer months, which have started to darken on places across my forehead. Safe to say, I was in need of a serious skin overhaul.
So, when I was invited to take part in the Ultraceuticals RVR90 program, the timing couldn’t have been better. RVR90 stands for Real Visible Results in 90 Days and is a program run every year by Ultraceuticals to produce (you guessed it) real visible results for clients. The client is appointed a highly-trained skin expert at an Ultraceuticals salon, who works with them to tackle specific skin concerns through a prescribed a 90-day treatment plan and homecare regime.
My Ultraceuticals expert is the lovely Rebecca from Serendipity Medi Spa in Baldivis. On my first consultation we speak in-depth about my skin’s history, concerns I have and my goals. She takes photos on the Ultraceuticals imaging machine and we analyse different layers of my skin. I’m surprised to find my UV damage is nowhere near as bad as I thought (thanks mum for forcing SPF on me every day as a young girl!) but patches of pigmentation and congestion show up, meaning our work is cut out for us – brighten the skin and keep blemishes at bay.
Rebecca prescribes me a skincare regime containing the following:
I follow up my morning routine with my usual Ultraceuticals SPF 30 and then makeup, but the prescribed products above are specifically tailored to clearing breakouts, brightening the skin and keeping it super hydrated.
My first treatment is a Mandelic Peel, one of Ultraceuticals most popular peels as it requires virtually no downtime and is suitable for all skin types. Mandelic acid is an AHA that works to decongest skin by deeply exfoliating and cleaning pores as well as beating blotchiness of hyperpigmentation. After the peel had worked its magic, Rebecca then applied the Ultra Energizing Mask, then infused a cocktail of Ultra Brightening Serum and Ultra A Skin Perfecting Serum into the skin using the Ultraceuticals Sonophoresis Machine. Following my first treatment my skin feels incredibly clean and supple and I notice the few spots I had disappear overnight! I am lucky enough not to fall victim to any post-peel flaking, just slight redness for a couple of days which dissipates quickly enough.
Two weeks later, I am back at Serendipity for my second appointment. After a close look at my skin, Rebecca decides on a more advanced treatment for me, microdermabrasion and an A-Zyme Peel. Not too long ago I had this exact treatment at another clinic and knew how incredible it was for my skin. Microdermabrasion is the ultimate cleanse, so my skin felt sparkly clean and ready for the A-Zyme Peel to work its magic. After the peel was applied to my skin (which felt a bit warm and tingly), Rebecca treated me to a sublime head massage. Following this, a hydrating lotion and SPF are applied and I a head off into the afternoon.
I can’t wait to report back on my skin progress in a couple of weeks, something tells me I’ll be impressed.
In collaboration with Ultraceuticals.
It’s about that time of year. Everyone is sniffling and spluttering, worn out and tired. We’ve hit the halfway mark on 2017 and if you’re anything like me, feeling quite exhausted.
Unfortunately, we can’t all crawl into a ball and hibernate for weeks on end, the show must go on! But there are ways you can relax the body and mind which will help when those stressful times creep up and you need a bit of inner zen to help you push through.
I’ve tried everything from yoga to massages, facials, mindfulness sessions and everything in-between. And while these sorts of relaxation are great, I’ve often found the effects on my body to be quite short lived. So when I heard about Infrared Sauna, I knew this was one to try.
Infrared Sauna Therapy is an incredibly effective treatment with a wide range of health benefits. Infrared works by heating the body’s core temperature rather than just heating the air in the sauna. The infrared penetrates tissue, joints and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and pains to chronic pain conditions. The benefits don’t end there – detoxification, weight loss, relaxation, improvement in skin conditions and cardiovascular health are all scientifically proven benefits of Infrared Sauna Therapy.
I arrive at Kardia Skin and Body for my sauna session and meet the lovely Natasha. Tucked away in her gorgeous home, Kardia Skin and Body offers high-end beauty and body treatments to a dedicated clientele. After a quick chat about my current health concerns and goals, I am led to a blissfully quiet room for my sauna.
At first I am a little nervous about spending 45 minutes in a wooden box at 58 degrees but I can assure you that it is the most amazing experience. I take in a couple of magazines and soak up the serenity, taking some time for a little meditation and feeling the calm just wash over me.
Within about 10 minutes of my first session, I am sweating it up big time, apparently this means the sauna is working its magic on detoxifying my body. After the session is complete I reluctantly head back out into reality and sip on filtered water in the cool waiting room.
I’ve been having weekly sauna sessions and the benefits are nothing like I’ve ever experienced before. During the session I feel my body and mind relax completely, a feeling which continues for a good couple of days afterwards – not to mention sleeping like a baby on those nights too! The infrared sauna has also had an amazing effect on some recurring lower back pain I’ve been experiencing, as the heat helps to relax my muscles and joints. My skin, also suffering terribly from stress (aka: mega breakout!), reaped the benefits of regular time in the sauna as the heat helped to get rid of all the toxins and nasty buildup of bacteria.
It was also so nice (almost indulgent) to have 45 minutes completely to myself. No messages, emails or S/O’s to interrupt me meant I could completely focus my mind on tuning out of all the noise.
Infrared Sauna sessions at Kardia Skin and Body will set you back $40 per session or $175 for a block of 5 sessions. And it’s worth every penny, trust me!

The one thing you should know about your skin, is that it’s always changing. Factors such as age, hormones and changing seasons are just some of the reasons why you’ll notice changes in skin tone, texture and luminosity (just to name a few!) over the course of a year. It’s especially important to pay attention to your skin as the weather changes, when tell-tale signs of long days in the sun can make their presence known. For me, smatterings of pesky pigmentation, dull skin and congestion tend to appear towards the end of summer, reminding me that now is the time to take action.
So as the sun set on another glorious summer, I spoke to the experts about whipping my skin into shape to brave the colder months.
I booked into La Belle Peau (the only place I trust in Perth with my skin) for a consultation and a treatment. I met with Perth’s very own ‘skin whisperer’ Kim Tran, who whisked me away one Tuesday evening for a consultation and subsequent treatment. Kim looked closely at my skin and we discussed my major skin concerns and what I wanted to achieve which is a brighter complexion, improved skin texture and to fade pigmentation.
Based on my concerns, Kim prescribed the Ultraceuticals A-Zyme Peel, a non-invasive and comfortable skin rejuvenation treatment. The A-Zyme peel combines fast-acting potent ingredients Retinol and Bromelain to refresh, refine, hydrate and plump the skin. It’s also perfect for those with acne and congestion complaints as it works to manage the skin’s oil levels and reduce the buildup of dead skin cells. Just what the doctor ordered!
Peels use natural acids to slough of the top layers of skin that are dull and damaged. The benefits of Ultraceuticals A-Zyme Peel in particular include: minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hydrates and plumps the skin, improves clarity and restores radiance to the complexion, unclogs pores and exfoliates skin. And that’s only a few!
Kim explained this peel involved a few days of downtime, but with the Easter weekend nearing and a few days down south planned, this didn’t phase me.
The treatment began with a thorough double cleanse, using Ultraceuticals Ultra Bright Foaming Cleanser, which sent me into a state of utter relaxation. Kim then prepped my skin with the Ultra Sonopheresis Machine before applying the A-Zyme Peel to my face, neck and décolletage. Upon application, the peel tingles a bit on my skin, but as I’m sure all beauty aficionados will agree, I love this feeling because I know it’s working.
Kim gently massaged in the peel with the Ultra Sonopheresis Machine, allowing the enzymes to deeply penetrate and work their magic on my skin. After the peel is removed, Kim applies the beautifully nourishing Ultraceuticals Ultra Hydrating Lotion, a super lightweight, fast absorbing lotion which restores suppleness to the skin without a shiny finish.
Following my treatment I am sent home loaded up with an aftercare program and products from Ultraceuticals to help me achieve my skin care goals. For the first 5-7 days I use the Ultra Brightening Cleanser, Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum, Ultra Hydrating Lotion and plenty of SPF during the day. For the first few days, I noticed slight peeling around my chin and mouth, which then moved to my nose and forehead. This had completely cleared by day 5 and my skin was visibly brighter, clearer with a noticeable glow. And although there wasn’t much need for it, makeup sat beautifully on my skin.
My skin continued to improve once it healed with oiliness and congestion a thing of the past, pigmentation visibly faded and a brighter, clearer complexion. I have now incorporated the Even Skintone Serum Concentrate into my morning routine as a way to keep pigmentation at bay. At night I have included the Ultra A Perfecting Serum, a healthy dose of Retinol to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and the Ultra A Perfecting Eye Cream, to help plump and refine delicate skin around the eyes.
My skin has never been happier. It is bright, clear and free from blemishes. The powerhouse ingredients of the A-Zyme Peel worked wonders on my dull, lacklustre complexion that was plagued with congestion. The aftercare products that were prescribed have helped keep my skin in check and continue to keep it looking brilliant.
So if your skin is looking a little sad after summer, book yourself in for a transformative Ultraceuticals peel and get it in tip top shape before the harsh winter weather is upon us.
They say change is as good as a holiday and personally, I like nothing like a little spruce up to keep things fresh. So you can imagine my delight when I waltzed into my Pilates haven, Pure Moves recently. The Cottesloe studio that once sported that iconic purple wall, has debuted a sleek new look with a pared back modern, minimalist style, giving the space an exclusive, luxe studio feel. The renovations included a brand new lounge area for clients to relax in pre or post class, a redesigned reception area, plenty of lush greenery and stunning finishes including modern hanging pendant lights and, my personal favourite, matte black sink and tap ware in the kitchen. The redesign has given the studio more of a unisex feel and has really given the space an amazing lift.
Inspired by the beautiful new fit-out at Pure Moves, and feeling very uninspired by the volume of hot cross buns and chocolate consumed last weekend, I checked into Pure Moves for a post-Easter blitz. I’ve rounded up some of the best classes to schedule in if you’re looking to work up a serious sweat.
Some smart cookie took my favourite Pilates workout and (somehow) made it better. Athletic Reformer is everything you love about the spring loaded resistance workout, but at a higher intensity to really get the heart rate going! I love Reformer because it strengthens and lengthens muscles without adding bulk, and Athletic Reformer takes it to a whole new level with a series of exercises that burn more calories and sculpt the body faster. I jumped into a 6am class and it was the perfect way to wake my body up and get ready for the day. Highly recommend!
A sure fire way to get your muscles (and metabolism) going is with a TRX class. This workout focuses on suspension training and the movements of the body while, well…suspended. Designed to work core muscles and increase strength, TRX at Pure Moves is a 45 minute class that is over before you know it and the results are almost instantaneous. I particularly felt the burn in my legs, until the next day when my core decided to kick in and my abs ignited. There is nothing like that all over body soreness after an amazing workout.
This game changer combines good old fashioned boxing with a toning Pilates mat class. It’s interval style training at its best which improves cardio fitness, strength and works the core, arms and back. This is a great class that is suitable for all fitness levels. Pure Moves offer three Boxilates classes per week, 8.30am Wednesday, 6.15pm Thursday and 6am Friday.
When it comes to skincare, I am a big believer that prevention is better than cure. A solid daily skincare regime combined with targeted maintenance such as monthly facials or peels are a sure fire way to keep skin health in check and knock any issues on the head. But as our days get busier, and with so many treatments available, it can sometimes become all too hard to know what to select for maintenance, let alone find a time to fit it in. Recently, I was treated to a HydraFacial at Skin Clinic Fremantle. Hailed as the ultimate multi-step treatment, the HydraFacial is a resurfacing procedure that promises clear and evenly toned skin, without any downtime. Read about my experience and why I’ll be making this incredible treatment part of my regular skin maintenance.
Originating from California, the HydraFacial is the ultimate multi-step treatment that promises to “cleanse, evenly exfoliate and extract to remove impurities and dead skin cells while also replenishing vital nutrients including Antioxidants, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid.” The treatment uses a unique Vortex-Fusion serum delivery system to deposit medical grade serum into the skin at each step which helps loosen up dead skin cells while simultaneously vacuuming the skin and removing excess oil and other congestion. It is completely painless, not time intensive and requires no down time. In fact, I went to my friend’s engagement party on the evening after my treatment, looking quite radiant might I add.
The Skin Clinic Fremantle is a boutique medical practice offering comprehensive skin cancer service, including screening, and both surgical and non-surgical treatments including cosmetics. Owned and run by Dr Sarah Boxley, the clinic provides a dedicated and caring level of service to all who walk through the doors.
I arrive to Skin Clinic Fremantle on a wet and windy Saturday for my HydraFacial. Located in the heart of the port city, the clinic keeps a discreet profile on the street – perfect for those after a little more privacy. Today I am in the very capable hands of Vicky, a dermal therapist who has been in the business for over 20 years and whose passion for skin and beauty is infectious. The treatment begins with a skin consultation where Vicky and I chat about my main skin concerns (congestion and oiliness – always!), my current skincare regime and some recommendations moving forward. Vicky also introduces me to Synergie Skin, a range I have been dying to try, and suggests a few products to incorporate into my daily routine.
After a quick cleanse using Synergie Skin UltraCleanse to remove any makeup, Vicky began the five-step HydraFacial process. Step one involves a thorough cleanse and exfoliation where excess skin cells are removed to reveal healthy new skin. Step two involves an acid peel, which sounds scary but is honestly the best thing for loosening dirt and debris from the pores without irritation and to make way for step three, extractions. This is a completely painless step where pores are cleaned out with vortex suction. Next, skin is infused with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid to nourish and protect, reduce the appearance of fine lines and provide deep hydration.
Following this, I am led into another treatment room for 15 minutes of absolute bliss under the Healite. The LED light enhance’s the body’s natural cellular recovery including improving healing times, promoting skin rejuvenation and subsiding active acne. Vicky leaves me under the warm lamp while my skin soaks up the goodness of the HydraFacial.
I am on cloud nine as I wander back to the reception where Vicky sees me off. Later that day I had my makeup done for a party and my makeup artist commented on the visible glow my skin was boasting and how well makeup was sitting on the skin. The weeks following my HydraFacial my skin felt super cleansed and springy, it had finally had the clean it really deserved! Makeup sat so well, products absorbed beautifully and my skin felt its healthiest in a long time.
The bottom line? I’m convinced.
HydraFacial will set you back $160 at Skin Clinic Fremantle. The procedure is painless and takes only about 30 minutes – hello lunch time facial!

Sometimes when I find a new little hidden gem, I like to keep my cards pretty close to my chest. But Bella’s Skincare Centre in East Fremantle is one local treasure I want to shout from the rooftops. Located just off Canning Highway, in the vibrant East Fremantle shopping precinct, Bella’s Skincare Centre offers clients luxurious and personalised service within the chic walls of their boutique salon.
Bella’s Skincare Centre is a full service spa and beauty salon, offering a wide range of treatments for both men and women. Salon Owner and Director, Anne Naudi, tells me the approach at Bella’s is holistic, but results driven. And with a team of therapists with a huge range of experiences and specialities, it’s not hard to see how this salon specialises in just about anything. Boasting a small selection of treatment rooms, all fully equipped with state of the art technology and products to help clients achieve pretty much anything when it comes to skincare.
A pristine, cool reception area greets me as I step off the street on a busy Monday afternoon for my facial at Bella’s. Soft, relaxing music is playing and the staff speak in hushed tones as a sense of calm immediately rushes over me. Elegantly styled in monochrome with hints of lime green and gorgeous white orchids in every room, Bella’s is understated yet sophisticated.
Today I am being treated to the Signature Dermalogica Facial, a beautifully nourishing treatment that is designed to relax and renew the skin while also delivering great results. My skin has somehow regressed to its 16-year-old self: congested, oily and a few angry pimples, so I am keen to get this under control, pronto. My therapist, Elle, greets me and leads me down a softly lit hallway to the treatment room where I settle into soft plush towels and fluffy blankets.
After assessing the condition of my skin (combination skin with an oily T-Zone, some congestion and dehydrated areas), Elle selected a Dermalogica range of products to suit my skin needs – namely rebuilding the skins barrier and achieving a smoother, clearer complexion. The facial begins with a few breathing protocols to ease me into a state of total relaxation and is then followed by a pre-cleanse which had the most incredible aroma. The formula gently liquefies sebum and oil based debris from the skins surface and is swiftly followed by Special Cleansing Gel, a product specially tailored for combination skin which gently removes impurities without disturbing the skins natural moisture balance. To boost the benefits of the cleanser, Elle also used bt-Micro, a device that cleverly combines ultrasonic peeling with microcurrent product penetration to cleanse, exfoliate, decongest, firm and tone the skin. This is a must have, all-in-one facial tool that rapidly diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps to enhance the absorption and effectiveness of your favourite cell renewal creams and serums – winner!
Next, Daily Microfoliant was applied to polish any dulling debris from the skin and give my skin a brighter complexion. The unique rice based enzyme powder is one of Dermalogica’s best sellers that can be used on the most sensitive skins but with very effective results. After some soothing hot towels to remove excess product, Elle performed a soothing massage on my shoulders, neck and face which melted away any remaining tension I had at this stage – although it is safe to say I was well and truly relaxed!
After the massage Elle applied Colloidal Masque to the cheeks and neck areas which needed more hydration. On areas of congestion the Charcoal Rescue Masque was applied to detoxify, brighten and decongest. While the masques were working their magic, Elle performed a beautifully relaxing massage on my legs and feet ensuring my entire body was suitably relaxed at this point. After the masque was removed with hot towels, Elle spritzed the Ultra Calming Mist over my face for some rehydration and then applied Dermalogica’s Age Reversal Eye Cream, an advanced microencapsulated retinol that helps smooth away the signs of aging around the eyes. This was followed by the Dynamic Skin Recovery, a lightweight hydrator chock full of antioxidants and a high SPF rating.
After my treatment, it took all my willpower to get up off the bed and float back out into the reception area from where I departed with a friendly goodbye from all the gorgeous staff. My skin felt so clean and refreshed after my facial and boasted a seriously radiant glow for weeks afterwards. Suitably relaxed after my pampering, I slept like a baby that night and woke up with plumper, brighter skin.
